I use Mendeley to manage my references and produce citations. I am also a Mendeley Advisor so if anyone wants to discuss the platform, see how it works, have a demo, etc do get in touch.
Of the various tools out there for managing bibliographic resources, Mendeley has the right features for me. Namely:
- Online storage of papers for access anywhere on any device
- Word plugin for writing papers and automating references
- Plugins for blogs and websites to allow sharing of bibliographies and lists of references
- A desktop tool for managing files and metadata on or offline
- A mobile app for taking docs and metadata out and about
- Integration with most of the online library catalogues for easy import of references
- Automated metadata extraction from (well formed) documents, such as digital versions of papers from the big publishers
